Voiceworks Grain is hot off the press

We are excited to announce our #128th issue, Grain, which recently launched in the Riverland region of South Australia in partnership with Writers SA. This special summer issue shines a spotlight on young South Australian artists, with eight contributors from Adelaide and surrounds. You can check out this article by Indaily for more info on the launch, of which there is also a recording below.

In Grain, you’ll find essays that explore recovery from cancer by Tara Grace, memoir grappling with sport and masculinity by Noa Shenker, creative nonfiction that maps family lineages through bodies of water by Monique Nair, reportage on employment schemes by Sudhashree Somers, and more. Fiction includes a foray into friendship and formaldehyde at a music festival by Megan Koch, experimental satire on family and belonging by Talia Moodley, and romance in a climate degraded future by Jordan Nguyen. In poetry, you can find concrete poems about eggs by Bronte Lemaire, lyrical verses about crushes by Theo Ferris, ecclesiastical pigeons by LJ Monk, and discrimination in scientific method by Nnadi Samuel. There are comics about learning to swim by Helena Pantsis and watching sunspots flare from behind tinted glasses by yolkmoose, as well as visual art about surgery by Dean Plesa, rooftop dragons by Mia Guerrieri, rice baths by Louie Lim and the war in Ukraine by Solomiya Sywak. This issue was illustrated by Emma Hough Hobbs, with cover art by Tyberius Larking, designed by Cecile Richard.

Congratulations to all of our contributors and a big thank you to all our readers and subscribers. We hope you enjoy poring over Voiceworks #128, ‘Grain’!
